Traveling with small children

Lets just keep it real.

Everyone loves you when your pushing your buggy around in the streets, they are full of joyful smiles and have the most cheerful gaze watching you stroll around in the supermarket, or at the park. Strangers peek into your stroller, smiling at baby and waving Hi, making these awful faces in attempt to make baby smile. Yet, the moment you walk up to the gate to board a plane with your bundle of joy in your arms everything changes! People are mortified. Their body language and the look of sheer terror in their faces say it all. They silently pray you and your little one aren't seated anywhere within earshot. It's such a shame that some people aren't more sensitive but hey it happens. So I decided to start my blog with a few tips for traveling with small children. These pointers will make your flight more pleasant when your traveling with a lapchild.

Tip 1. Make sure you arrive to the airport even earlier!

Sidebar: A cranky mama equals cranky baby, trust me on this.

Small children naturally react to whatever their parents are feeling.

You should be calm, collective and relaxed the entire time.

SO NO LAST MINUTE RUSHY RUSHY MOM

Tip 2. Tire them out the entire time you are waiting to board.

Sidebar: Overstimulation is key! Sing to baby! Dance with him!

Walk him around and show him every pretty color there is!

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT LET HIM FALL ASLEEP;

there are some exceptions to this rule lol,

if he's already tired than disregard this tip :/

Tip 3. Try to book a seat closer to the front,

but let others board and get settled first so you don't have to keep getting up

Sidebar: we all know aisle seats are usually best for momma and baby)

Tip 4. Change and Feed baby right before you board.

This is an absolute must!

Tip 5. Memorize some nursery rhymes and bring toys

Sidebar: you better and smile and sing to baby the entire flight lol it will keep him from crying

whisper the songs to him and then get a little louder he loves the change of tune and it will keep him engaged

and your personal item (stored conveniently under your seat) should be full of toys, baby safe toy sanitizer, teethers, wipes and other age appropriate things for baby to do.

My 7 month old flies without a peep the entire flight ( we've flown non stop to Barbados and back to NY nearly 5 hours each way) due solely to preparation skills & FYI It feels awesome to be complimented on your child's behavior. Follow these tips your little one will be entertained or sleep majority of the ride, and if you have some tips to contribute i will be very happy to incorporate them into my traveling routine.
